Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. In some cases, the heart can't fill with enough blood. In other cases, the heart can't pump blood to the rest of the body with enough force. Some people have both problems.
In the initial stages, patients are at risk of developing heart failure, but the signs of heart failure may not manifest overtly. People who have been diagnosed with heart failure should monitor their symptoms carefully and report any sudden changes to their doctor immediately.
By far the main symptoms are shortness of breath especially on lying down or during sleep, excessive tiredness with reduced physical activity and appearance of ankle swelling. This happens when the patient is not getting enough blood pumped from the heart to the various parts of the body and to the heart muscle itself. Additionally, the pressures within the heart chambers and lungs increases causing congestion and symptoms of heart failure.
Above symptoms need to be evaluated by a heart failure specialist to establish diagnosis and cause. Once heart failure is confirmed by clinical evaluation and various tests, they are put on drugs as first line of treatment. Depending upon patient to patient they may remain symptom-free or may have minimal symptoms for months or years if they are on regular medications. Some may recover also.
But some start having worsening of symptoms even on medical therapy and they may require specialized interventions like pacemaker devices to resynchronize the failing heart. While another group of patients have frequent hospitalisation and from this point they may deteriorate rapidly which can lead to a stage where it is called as refractory heart failure or end stage heart failure who may require advanced management like heart transplant or ventricular assist devices.
Hence, it is advisable to contact a hospital at the earliest that can perform specialized interventions and heart transplants once the worsening of their symptom starts.
The Pro BNP investigation detects whether the patient has Heart Failure . During the Heart Failure condition , an enzyme leaks into the blood due to increased pressure inside the heart. This enzyme is detected or measured through the ProBNP test in a patient . Hence if found that the enzyme has leaked , we confirm the patient’s condition as HFPackage Includes:
Our expert team medically manages heart failure in patients with the latest available medications, specialized investigations and patient specific expert management to control the progression of the condition, keeping patients out of the hospital, and reducing mortality. Also, the cardiac rehabilitation team counsels the patients and their family members on diet and other lifestyle modifications to limit symptoms and to optimise the patient's ability to participate in daily routines.Electrical Device Management
Qualified electrophysiologists at our centre provide Cardiac Resynchronisatlon Therapy (CRT) with biventncular pacemakers and avoid life-threatening heart rhythm disorders with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)Surgical Management
ECMO or Cardiac Revival Programme Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) offers new rays of hope to patients with devastating lung injury or heart failure. Using this technology in early stages also helps saving tissue from further hypoxic injury. Unlike an ordinary heart-lung bypass machine, ECM() can be used for days. Thus ECMO not only allows the heart and lungs to recover, but also offers patients some time for heart transplant i.e it can be used as a 'Bridge-To-Transplant'Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
