Dr. Aashish Shah is currently the Director at Department of GI/Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery. He is an eminent Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgeon with more than 18 years of extensive experience in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries with over 10000 surgeries. Expert in Thoracoscopic Surgeries, he has performed a number of complex Thoracoscopic Lung and Esophageal Resection Procedures. He is also an acknowledged specialist in performing the entire range of Bariatric Surgical Procedures and Endoscopic Intra Gastric Balloon Deployment for Obesity.
After finishing his Masters in General Surgery from Grant College, Mumbai, Dr. Aashish Shah went on to complete the Diplomate of National Board from NBE, New Delhi in 1994. He was then awarded FRCS by RCPS, Glasgow, after successfully completely his training in Laparoscopic and Gastro Intestinal surgery, followed by the training in Advanced Laparoscopic Training at the European Institute of Tele Surgery (EITS), Strasbourg, France – one of the premier Laparoscopic Training Institutes in the world. He had also undergone an intensive training in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at the National University Hospital, Singapore. He is also Faculty for the FNB (Fellowship of National Board) in Minimal Access Surgery at Fortis Hospital. He has been a lap trainer at various courses and in the local lap surgical training programme.
Dr. Aashish Shah is an acknowledged expert in the field of Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) and has pioneered the surgical technique at Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore. He has expertise in novel SILS Technique in Bariatric Surgeries for Obesity. He is the Director of Minimal Access and Bariatric/Metabolic Surgery at Fortis Hospital, Bangalore. He has a special interest in Laparoscopic Surgeries for GastroIntestinal Cancers and is an expert at Laparoscopic Colorectal and Gastric Cancer operations. He is an acknowledged expert at Laparoscopic Fundoplications for GERD. He is also a visiting expert Laparoscopic Surgeon to Hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq and Kampala, Uganda.
