Echocardiography Learning & Training Education

 

OVERVIEW OF THE TRAINING PROGRAMME

 

Echocardiography is currently the most widely used non-invasive imaging test for the

 

evaluation of known or suspected heart disease. It involves a wide variety of techniques,

 

both conventional and advanced. The conventional techniques are: M-mode, 2-dimensional / B-mode imaging, pulsed, continuous wave, and color Doppler imaging. Tissue Doppler imaging, strain by speckle echo, 3D echo, contrast echo, are some of the advanced techniques while stress echo and trans-esophageal echo are the specialized procedures.

 

In a given patient, any or all of these modalities may be used to detect and assess the nature

 

and severity of suspected cardiac disease.

 

Training in echo will include
 

  • Understanding cardiac anatomy, cardiac hemodynamics and various pathophysiology
  • Knowledge of principles and instrumentation of ultrasound & the equipment
  • Acquisition of echo images and learning how to do measurements
  • Interpretation of normal and abnormal echo findings and ability to integrate them with
  • patient history and physical examination

 

The training is based on latest guidelines and recommendations with an objective to learn the various aspects of echocardiography in a practical, easy way and use this knowledge to apply it in daily practice

Courses Offered

 

Conventional Echo ( M -mode, 2D, color & spectral Doppler)

 

Module-1 (Basic level)

 

This is primarily for the beginner, who has no or minimal knowledge of echo. Education will be at a basic level. It introduces the attendee to elementary information about physics, anatomy, physiology with special focus on how to get an image along with echo-anatomy correlation. It also covers on how to do routine measurements, common methods to evaluate LV function and also expose the attendee to cardiac hemodynamics in a limited & simplified way. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo with major focus on hands-on training.

 

Module – 2 (Intermediate level)

 

This level is for the one who has some knowledge about echo and is practicing echo in a limited way. Education will be at a slightly higher level. This module is designed to further

expand the knowledge of the basic level echo practitioner. Topics covered are RV and LV function, PH, heart failure, valves, cardiac masses and CAD complications. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo or computer-based cases with moderate focus on hands-on training.

Module – 3 (Higher level)

This level is for those who are experienced in echo and needs to refine their techniques or refresh or enhance skills to improve their daily workflow. It is also for those at intermediate level who are keen on an extending their knowledge and lift their skills further. Education will be at a high level. Topics covered are cardiomyopathies, advanced hemodynamics, prosthetic heart valves, pericardial and aortic diseases. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo or computer-based cases with limited focus on hands-on training.

Advanced Echo ( TDI, Speckle strain, 3D Echo, Contrast echo & stress echo) with a separate module for 3D echo

 

Module – 4 (TDI, Speckle echo, Contrast echo and Stress echo)

This advanced level is for those who are experienced in conventional echo and looking to expand and upgrade skills to apply advanced techniques in their routine clinical practice. Education will be at a high level. Attendee has to have sound knowledge about conventional echo, cardiac hemodynamics and pathophysiology. Topics are cardiac mechanics and how to do TDI, speckle echo, contrast echo and also stress echo. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo or computer-based cases with moderate focus on hands-on training.

Module – 5 (3D Echo)

This advanced level is for the one who is experienced in conventional echo and looking to expand and upgrade skills to apply 3D echo in routine clinical practice. Education will be at a high level. Attendee has to have sound knowledge about conventional echo, cardiac hemodynamics, cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology. Topics are basics of 3D, acquisition of images, cropping and quantification of chambers, valves, septae and other common pathologies. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo or computer-based cases with major focus on hands-on trainin

Specialised Echo

Module – 6 (TEE)

 

This advanced level is for those who are experienced in conventional echo or an anesthesiologist or critical care specialist looking to expand or upgrade skills by using TEE in their routine clinical practice. Education will be at moderate to high level. Attendee has to have basic knowledge about cardiac hemodynamics, cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology. Topics are basics of TEE, probe insertion techniques, understanding various 2D imaging planes, echo anatomy, acquisition of various images, use of Doppler and measurements. 2D TEE focus will be on attendee who has limited exposure to TEE and 3D TEE focus will be on attendee who is skilled in 2D TEE. Content delivery is predominantly by live-demo or computer-based cases with moderate focus on hands-on  training.

FELLOWSHIP

Detailed and comprehensive training of all aspects of 2d and 3d TEE will be provided with emphasis on hands-on training.

 

CERTIFICATE

  • Certificate of Training (provided by Fortis Hospital – In association with FAME & endorsed by Indian Academy of Echocardiography, Karnataka)
  • Fellowship in TEE

 

DURATION OF THE COURSES

  • 3 days for each of the separate modules in Conventional Echo (Basic, Intermediate & Higher) & Advanced Echo module – 4
  • 3 days for 3D echo module
  • 4 days for Advanced Echo & 3D echo modules combined
  • 4 days for TEE & Basic Echo modules combined
  • 4 days for Sonographer session (separate session which combines modules of conventional echo-higher level, Advanced Echo & 3D echo)
  • 1 month for Fellowship in TEE

ELIGIBILITY

 

  • Post MBBS – 2 years
  • Post Diploma or equivalent degree
  • Post MD / DM / McH or equivalent degree
  • PG’s – MD / MS or equivalent degree
  • PG’s – DM / McH or equivalent degree
  • Sonographers – 3 years’ experience (can apply only for Module-3, 4 & 5)
  • (attendees will have to provide relevant copies of their medical certification at the time of applying)

 

FEES

Conventional echo

– Rs. 9,500/- for Module 1 Basic

– Rs.10,500/- for Module 2 Intermediate

– Rs.11,500/- for Module 3 Higher

 

Advanced echo

 

– Rs. 12,500/- for Module 4 Quantitative, Stress and Contrast

– Rs. 13, 500/- for Module 5 3D echo

 

Specialized echo

 

– Rs. 14,500/- for Module 6 TEE

– Rs. 25,000/- for Fellowship in TEE

 

Fee also includes course material, assessment & certificate, lunch & coffee breaks

  • Onsite learning material will be made available during the duration of training
  • Travel, accommodation and other local expenses are extra, to be arranged by attendee, though Fortis hospital with Travel Desk will help attendees to obtain near by accommodation
