Tips for Running Your Best 10k
Get the right footwear
The shoes should be relatively lightweight but provide good support to protect your bones, muscles, joints and tendons during your training.
Make regular stretching and flexibility training as part of your daily fitness regime. This avoids the increasing the risk of muscle pulls and strains.
Be careful after a break
If you have taken a break from running be careful not to jump straight back into a rigorous routine when you start training again - it could cause an injury.
Get some resistance training done
Resistance training helps improve your all round strength and posture. Try to include one or two full body workouts into your training each week.
Eat breakfast before two hours
That’s how long it takes for your food to digest properly before a big race. It also allows time for any “nervous tummy” issues to settle.
Start fueling 30 minutes into the run
One of the biggest marathon mistakes is waiting too long to start refueling. It’s best to start the process half an hour in and continue to refuel every half an hour until completion.
